Tips for getting long time pest control customers

In my 30 years experience, I have accumulated some tips to keep good customers.
If you have a pest control business in NYC pay attention to the following tips I have used to make my business last close to 20 years.

  1. Treat everyone with respect.
No matter where the person lives, what their skin color is or how much money they have , treat everyone the same. Good business relationships are just that. From the second that phone rings, or that lead comes in the customer is reaching out in the need of some direction. Treat them like a family member, or a distant relative and really try to understand the stress they are going through. They may have bed bugs, or roaches and they are online frantically researching and frighting them selves. A bad PCO will frighten them more into spending money. Which leads me to my second tip

   2. Be patient and LISTEN to what they are saying.

When the telephone rings with a possibility for a new job,  business owners hear an old fashion cash register CHA-CHING ( Remember those days? ). That is NOT the way to treat your customers. Be patient and listen to what the customers are telling you. Many frantic customers will ask you hundreds of questions. They want to know the history or the bed bugs, where the roaches come from, or if it will give them a disease. It is your job as their choice PCO to LISTEN to what they are asking and answer accurately. When a customer feels like you are listening to them, they will be more likely to want to invite you into their home.

   3.  Give them your honest opinion.

Sometimes you may lose a call or two by doing this, but honesty is always the best policy. Plus you can sleep much better at night knowing you are helping people out.
