Bed Bug Pointers
Are you Worried about bed bugs? Here on todays short blog post we thought we would give you some adivce. After all, we are bed bug extermination experts. Just read a few of our pointers so we can make you feel better about your bed bug worries. Here at Northeastern Exterminating we like to give a few pointers to our customers, friends, and colleagues.
- Don't compare bites with online pictures. Not even the most experienced Doctors can tell you what insect has bitten you.
- Understand that mosquito season is among us. Many people do not understand that mosquito bites and bed bug bites are very similar in size, shape, and reaction. Think if you have recently been to a party where you have spent some time out doors. Not every bite is a bed bug bite.
- Learn how to inspect on your own. There are MANY youtube videos that teach you how to inspect your own bed for bed bugs. We recommend you perform self bed bug inspections every month, to keep on top of an infestation.
- Never self treat. If you do discover you have a problem DO NOT self treat. Immediately call a licensed professional to take care of the problem. Store bought sprays only cause the infestation to spread through-out the house and can make you small infestation into a 5 month long ordeal. Also there have been many recent bed bug house fires due to self treatment. Do everyone a favor and call in the professionals.
- Mattress Encasements. If you do a self inspection and do not currently see any bed bugs it is a great idea to purchase mattress encasements. This action can save you hundreds of dollars and make it much easier for the pest control company to treat your problem. Make sure the mattress encasement is listed for bed bugs.
- Do your homework. An educated victim is a bed bugs worst enemy. If you understand the facts behind bed bug behavior you will be a step ahead of them. Learn all about bed bugs!
- Be-careful when vacationing. Hotels are known to be a very high risk bed bug area. Use your bed bug inspection knowledge on family trips. When arriving at a hotel before you un pack your luggage do an inpsection. This may not seem like something you want to do while vacationing, but it will save you stress when your back home.

Ways to reduce pests in your kitchen
Here at Northeastern Exterminating we try to go above and beyond our goal. A customer will hire us to get rid of the mice, roaches, ants or rats they may be having a problem with. After we service the customer we try to give them a few tips on how to further keep any unwanted pests our of their kitchens. Here below we have a few suggestions for you. After you hire someone to rid your home of pests follow these tips to ensure a pest free kitchen.
- Make sure kitchen cabinets are clean. Periodically, try to keep your cabinets clean of any spilled food debris. Once a month take out all foodstuffs from your cabinets. Throw away any unused expired food. Use a crevice tool attached to a vacuum to remove any leftover crumbs. Use a mild detergent cleaner to wipe your cabinets clean. If you have clean cabinets, the pests will have no reason to linger.
- Use sealed glassware for food. Any cereals, rice, or grain products are better stored inside a sealed plastic or glass container. Because roaches like to live and hide inside cardboard this will prevent harborage for roaches. Also, mice cannot bite through glassware.
- Clean all dishes in sink. Standing water increases instances of vermin. If you rid your home of any standing water sources it will reduce infestations. Remember, water is life sustaining to every living thing. No water, no life.
These are just a few tips to keep your home free of pests such as mice, roaches, ants, rats and more!
If you have any tips please contact us and we will add it to our list. If you need an exterminator in NYC please give us a call at (718)336-0634.
